- Always refer to the travel information from the German Foreign Office. The German Foreign Office website provides the latest travel warnings and information on your holiday region.
- In case of a travel warning or restrictions on entering your destination, first contact your tour operator or the airline. Whether and to what extent you can cancel or rebook your trip without charge can change constantly.
- If your tour operator does not cover the costs, check your insurance documents. A reimbursement of costs if you cancel or curtail your trip will depend on the insurance terms and conditions and benefits.
Am I covered if I fall ill before the start of my trip?
A travel cancellation policy will cover you if you unexpectedly fall seriously ill before the start of your trip, making it impossible for you to travel. As a rule, a coronavirus infection will satisfy these prerequisites.
Can I cancel a trip due to the theoretical risk of contagion?
A theoretical risk is not an insured event under the travel cancellation insurance.
I am afraid to travel. What are the provisions of the travel cancellation insurance regarding coronavirus?
You are covered by the travel cancellation insurance if you have to cancel your trip because a close relative has unexpectedly fallen seriously ill or died. A fear of falling ill is not an insured event.
Does a pre-existing condition change this provision?
No.
What happens if I am ordered to quarantine before I start my trip?
We will pay the costs for self-quarantine under the travel cancellation insurance and if you have to cut your holiday short. Our customers are also insured if they have been ordered to self-quarantine even though the insured person(s) has/have not personally contracted the disease. This applies to cancellations under the travel cancellation insurance, and also if you have to cut your holiday short because you have been ordered to self-quarantine. This applies only to single trip travel insurance, not to annual insurance packages.
Will the travel cancellation insurance cover me if the German Foreign Office issues a travel warning for my holiday destination before I travel?
A regular travel warning issued by the Federal Foreign Office generally does not constitute an insured event. Please contact your tour operator in the case of a package tour or your service provider in the case of a modular tour. Cancellations or rebookings can often be made free of charge. Current travel information can be found on the German Foreign Office website.
What happens if the authorities do not allow me to enter my holiday destination?
Unfortunately, you are not covered in this case.
And if the authorities at my holiday location impose severe restrictions through safety measures?
You will not be insured if you cancel due to restrictions on account of safety measures at your holiday location.
Are additional expenses or return travel expenses covered if you are quarantined abroad?
Insurance coverage is provided and additional expenses are covered should you or your travel companion be placed in quarantine during your trip.
Does travel cancellation insurance apply if the Federal Foreign Office issues a travel warning for your destination country?
The general insurance conditions generally stipulate that no insurance coverage is provided if the Foreign Office has issued a travel warning for the destination country at the time of entry. However, since the coronavirus pandemic is a transnational situation and the Federal Foreign Office now clearly distinguishes between regular travel warnings and COVID-19-related travel warnings, travel cancellation insurance will cover expenses provided that only a COVID-19-related travel warning was been issued for the destination.

Am I covered if a carrier denies carriage because of a suspected contagious disease
(including epidemic or pandemic diseases such as COVID-19)?
Yes, in this case, we will reimburse the costs under the travel cancellation and delay insurance.
What does the insurance coverage look like in the event of a coronavirus infection?
If you have taken out travel health insurance with Allianz Travel, you are comprehensively protected abroad. Should you become infected with COVID-19 during your trip abroad, the medically necessary treatment costs incurred locally or repatriation are generally insured.
This also applies to trips to areas or countries for which the Federal Foreign Office has issued a COVID-19-related travel warning. The general terms and conditions of insurance basically stipulate that there is no insurance coverage if the Foreign Office has issued a travel warning for the destination country at the time of your entry.
However, since the coronavirus pandemic is a transnational situation and the Federal Foreign Office now clearly distinguishes between regular travel warnings and COVID-19-related travel warnings, travel cancellation insurance will cover expenses provided that only a COVID-19-related travel warning was been issued for your travel destination. However, if a non-COVID-19-related travel warning has been issued by the Federal Foreign Office for your travel destination at the time of entry, there is no insurance coverage under the travel health insurance.
We regret that you are currently unable to travel to the planned extent due to the corona pandemic and we understand that in this situation you would want to forego your annual travel insurance with us.
The annual travel cover offers insurance cover for any number of trips within a year. Insurance cover also exists for business trips and for trips within Germany. The fee is calculated regardless of the number of trips actually made.
You are covered from the start of the contract. Therefore, after the 14-day cancellation period has expired, premature termination of the insurance contract due to the corona pandemic with reimbursement of your insurance premium or a subsequent change to the contract term is unfortunately no longer possible.

Travel warning

Concerning this matter, please take note of the statements above. Please check immediately before setting off on your trip whether the Federal Foreign Office has documented such a travel warning on its homepage.
